You hit a shot at X-Golf Rockwall. It curves. The simulator already logged exactly why. Most golfers just never look at it.
Backspin and sidespin do different jobs
The simulator tracks both, but they don’t do the same thing. Backspin is what makes the ball climb and land soft. Sidespin is what makes it curve left or right, and that’s the number behind every slice, hook, draw, and fade.
Sidespin is the number to pay attention to
Picture a bike wheel spinning sideways instead of straight. It pulls in the direction it’s leaning. Golf ball spin works the same way.
On the X-Golf screen, sidespin shows up right after every shot, tagged “+” for right and “-” for left. More sidespin to the right means more fade or slice. More to the left means more draw or hook. The bigger the number, the more the ball moves.
Why the ball moves sideways at all
Sidespin creates a pressure difference across the ball as it flies. One side pushes into the air harder than the other, and that shoves the ball off its starting line, same physics as a pitcher’s curveball, and the same reason a soccer player can bend one around a wall.
Your swing path sets up the curve
Club path, the direction your club is traveling at impact relative to the target line, is most of what decides which way that sidespin leans. Swing more in-to-out and you tend to see sidespin toward a draw. Swing more out-to-in and you tend to see sidespin toward a fade or slice.
A small path number produces a gentle curve. A big one can cost you a fairway.
The simulator shows you both numbers on every swing
At X-Golf Rockwall, club path and sidespin appear on the same screen after every shot. No guessing at the cause. Book a tee time and you’ll see it on your first swing.
What the numbers actually tell you to do
A club path that stays consistent swing after swing, paired with sidespin that curves the same way every time, means your setup is producing a repeatable pattern. You can start aiming for it instead of fighting it.
A path and sidespin combination that swings wildly from shot to shot points at something less consistent, usually grip pressure or how late you’re squaring the face through impact. Your grip is one of the first places to look when either number won’t settle down.
Watching it move tells you if the fix is working
Sidespin that drops session over session means something actually changed. You don’t have to wait for the next round to find out.
A golf lesson at X-Golf Rockwall puts an instructor in the bay reading that same data with you, so you know what to adjust before you leave.
